Klaus Koch

Klaus Koch focuses on quality assurance and validation for the SMC’s digital projects. After earning a degree in biology, he began his career in science journalism with a scholarship from the Robert Bosch Foundation. Until the end of 2005, he worked as a freelance medical and science journalist (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Deutsches Ärzteblatt) and as an author. In 2007, he earned his doctoral degree with a dissertation on the appraisal of methods for cancer screening.
From 2006 to June 2026, he was employed at the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG), most recently as head of the Health Information Department and editor-in-chief of the medical portal www.gesundheitsinformation.de.
